Fusion Bio-Life Sciences Sdn Bhd (FBS) is a subsidiary of In-Fusion Education Sdn Bhd (IESB), which owns and operates Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS), Malaysia’s youngest medical university. In line with the objective of the university to take leadership in medical research, FBS was set-up as a special purpose vehicle to undertake research and development in the area of biotechnology.
CUCMS houses a pool of medical professionals actively involved in medical and pharmaceutical research. Through FBS we will be utilizing the expertise in preclinical and clinical research and development already available in CUCMS, consisting of 10 PhDs in Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacy and Sciences.
The core activity at FBS is to provide pre-clinical and clinical research and development services, initially focusing on Malaysian herbal, dietary and health supplements and eventually moving into the more challenging drug and pharmaceutical products. Services include:
Chemical analysis and profiling
Clinical drug testing
Herbal toxicity and animal study
Patent formulation
The Malaysian medical sector is seeing increasing growth in the traditional alternative medicinal products. Consumers now believe in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and consuming herbal products to thwart potential diseases or illnesses such as cancer and diabetes. Many local companies are hopping on the band wagon, producing herbal tablets and capsules using proprietary and secret formulae, which are produced without scientific evidences and content research. This is where FBS sees its market entry opportunity.
FBS is positioning itself as a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) that will support the increasing need for skilled and knowledgeable researchers in medical product research. This will be rather radical given that Malaysia has yet to be placed on the world map for professional contract researches.
FBS is promoting evidence-based medicine where individual clinical expertise is integrated with the best available external clinical evidence through systematic research. We believe that healthcare decisions should be made based on strong evidence of medical claims, generated by high quality research studies. In Evidence-based Medicine (EBM), systematic research methodology and objective outcome (rather than subjective) are key.
FBS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vedic Life Sciences Pvt Ltd (VLS) based in Mumbai, India during the Malaysian Natural Products Expo 2008. This joint collaboration with VLS will strengthen our position in the natural product development sector. With their strong background and expertise in international regulation and contract research in the European and US markets, we are confident of enhancing our capabilities in natural products to the evidence based levels required for the challenging international markets.
